“Passports, Instruments, Music, Uniform”

Tuesday night, May 12, 2009, Director Thom Working declared, reminded, and repeated again that we may forget to pack underwear, but NOT these four things!  Can a group of over 60 responsible adults remember just four items?  Or will we find out if FedEx really means “Over Night” shipping to Europe?

A trip itinerary was handed out so feel free to e-mail me at David at AudioMemories.org if you’d like a copy e-mailed to you.  I’ll try to post it to the website or blog before the busses roll from City On A Hill in Zeeland, Michigan at 9:30am, June 4, 2009.

26 days to go and we have two great events planned for your enjoyment (and to help raise some need funds!!!)

FIRST:

This coming THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. the Holland Legion Band is holding a public rehearsal, dinner, baked goods sale and silent auction fundraising event.   You are free to come and go as your schedule allows.

SECOND:

Ken Vos of Reliable Sports in Holland talks about the Poker Run planned for May 16, 2009 as a way to support the Holland Legion Band’s trip to the 65th Anniversary of the D-day invasion in Normandy, France.  The 40 mile bike, scooter, cycle, and minivan run will take participants through the beautiful West Michigan towns of Holland, Saugatuck, Hamilton, Zeeland, and many villages along the way.  With a very reasonable entry fee of $20, each participant will receive a free ice cream at Captain Sundae and a chance to win a $200 gift certificate from Reliable Sports along with many more prizes from area bike shops and businesses.  There will be prizes for the best and worst poker hand presented.

This past Thursday marked the first official full rehearsal for the American Legion Band’s trip to the 65th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France.  The entire rehearsal was laser focused on learning several new songs, practicing rough spots on existing songs, and general rehearsal so here’s a link to an audio clip of two interviews from the Spring Banquest held in March.  The five minute clip shares how two of our long time band members, Viv Hoogland and Vic Kleinheksel, became involved in the band.

43 days to go

My math skills aren’t all that sharp, and frankly I’ve been told I fall a little flat when it comes to smarts, but I count 43 days till we climb on the plane headed for Normandy!!!  Tomorrow night (Thursday) is the first full rehearsal for the Normandy trip so it seems appropriate to officially begin blogging for the European Tour!!!  My name is Dave Boeve and I’ll be your blogging host throughout the trip.  Barring severe technical disaster, this blog will be YOUR source for video, audio, and text updates on our progress towards the trip and during the trip.  As the actual trip gets closer, you will also find coverage on woodtv.com and 1450AM WHTC (www.whtc.com), but for now, just keep checking out HollandLegionBand.org!

Fund raising: Yep, we can still use some!  Perhaps you’d like to sponsor this blog and have our huge, worldwide audience see your name in lights for the next two months!  Send me an e-mail at David@AudioMemories.org if interested.  Otherwise please follow the links to make a fully tax deductible contribution!  Thanks in advance!

I’ll try to catch some interviews with band members tomorrow night at practice for you!
