2010 is the fourth year the Holland American Legion Band has offered an award to honor our past director, Henry P. Vander Linde, who directed the band for 40 of its 91 years. The annual $500 grant is to help high school band students who have a serious interest in music to further their music education through private lessons or summer music camps.
The fourth annual Holland American Legion Band Henry P. Vander Linde Award winner was Aaron Goodyke, a junior at Holland Christian High School. Aaron plays the French horn, as well as Piano, Organ, Guitar and Drums.
He plays French horn in the Symphonic Band and Orchestra at Holland Christian, and plays Piano for the HCHS Jazz Band and Jazz Combo. He has been active in the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Local and State Solo and Ensemble Contests, receiving a 1st Division Rating at the State level.
Aaron has attended Calvin College’s Knollcrest Music Camp for two years, and was selected to be in the Calvin College High School Honors Band this past year. Aaron plans to use his award to participate in the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Congratulations Aaron!
